This is a DJ technique in which two recordings are used to extend an existing rhythm or create a new one. Beat Juggling is the creation of a unique composition by manipulating several sounds (e.g. drum beats or vocal phrases). For this, several turntables and one mixer are used.
It's like a manual smashing, where the turntable and the mixer are used like a musical instrument that extracts the sounds of other instruments – semplai. Beat Juggling is a kind of clipping of sounds in which a small part of the rhythm is looped using two copies of the same record. First it was done by DJ Kool Herc, and then in the early nineties perfected the DJ Grandmaster Flash.
The other two foundations of the modern rhythm juggling technique are Tapping or Walking. When a DJ touches a recording between the sounds of percussion, he stops it for a moment to slow down the rhythm, or pushes it faster to speed up. "Shuffling", or "strobing", in which the DJ loops two recordings at different points of the rhythm, thereby perplexing the recording lively creates new combinations of sounds.

The term Beat Juggling is coined by the media, not by the creators of this technique. Juggling rhythm only describes what is done. The inventor of this technique, DJ Steve Dee of Harlem, NYC, called it simply Funk's extraction from the record. This playing technique was improved by the DJ band The X-Men, which DJ Steve Dee founded, and later they became The X-Ecutioners.
